Kendra Tinsley, Executive Director of the Kansas Healthcare Collaborative (KHC), successfully passed the Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) examination in June, earning the CPPS credential that attests to her professional competency in patient safety science and application. The achievement demonstrates Tinsley’s commitment and expertise in the critical discipline of patient safety.

She is a participant of the American Hospital Association (AHA) National Patient Safety Foundation’s Comprehensive Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship, an AHA Hospital Engagement Network Fellow, a member of the YWCA Women’s Academy: Leadership Momentum class, and has completed training through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

KHC is a provider-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to engage and align providers and stakeholders to establish Kansas as a role model for health care quality and top-performer in health care outcomes. Founded in 2008 by the Kansas Hospital Association and the Kansas Medical Society,KHC embodies the commitment of two of the state’s leading health care provider groups to act as a resource and continuously enhance the quality of care provided to Kansans.

The Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety (CBPPS) was established by the National Patient Safety Foundation to advance, standardize and promote patient safety knowledge competencies for health care professionals. CBPPS designed the credentialing process to establish patient safety competency standards and elevate the professional stature of health care professionals who meet knowledge requirements in safety science, human factors engineering, and the practice of safe care. Certification requires a combination of education and experience, as well as successful completion of the evidence-based certification exam. There are only four individuals in Kansas who have earned the CPPS credential.

KHC is recognized as the lead organization for a number of statewide quality and patient safety initiatives including: CUSP: Stop BSI; CUSP: Stop CAUTI; Influenza Immunization; and the Kansas Hospital Engagement Network. For more information about KHC and its initiatives, visit www.khconline.org.
