The Kansas Healthcare Collaborative is excited to share the good news about your work and the work of hospitals and providers across the country. This week the Department of Health and Human Services announced that preliminary data indicates a nine percent decrease in hospital-acquired conditions nationally during 2011 and 2012.
Reductions in adverse drug events, falls, infections and other forms of hospital-induced harm are estimated to have prevented nearly 15,000 deaths in hospitals, avoided 560,000 patient injuries and saved approximately $4 billion in health care spending over the same period. HHS data is also showing large reductions in 30-day readmissions rates for Medicare patients.
